Non-Fickian diffusion in viscous aerosol particles

چکیده
Slow condensed phase diffusion in organic aerosol particles can impede many chemical and physical processes associated with atmospheric (e.g., gas-particle equilibrium partitioning). The characteristic times these high viscosity are typically modelled using a concentration-dependent diffusivity within purely Fickian framework. In that model, the medium which is taking place treated as being inviscid far mass transport concerned. this report, we investigate validity of assuming equal to zero by model includes viscous pressure gradients. It found effect negligible for radii larger than 100 nm, but below radius, it delay water uptake loss orders magnitude physically realistic viscosities. However, if Stokes–Einstein relation obeyed, then be ignored, even nanosized particles. addition numerical calculations, dimensionless Deborah number defined indicates significance compared rheological response during transport.

About Non-Fickian Hyperbolic Diffusion
Fick’s law expresses the proportionality of solute flux with respect to concentration gradient. Similar relations are Darcy’s law for the fluid flow in porous media, Ohm’s law for the electric flux and Fourier’s law for heat transfers. When introduced in the corresponding balance equations, these flux laws yield diffusion equations of parabolic character. Different attempts have been made to ob...
متن کاملNon-Fickian Diffusion in Thin Polymer Films
Diffusion of penetrants through polymers often does not follow the standard Fickian model. Such anomalous behavior can cause difficulty when designing polymer networks for specific uses. One type of non-Fickian behavior that results is so-called case I1 diffusion, where Fickian-like fronts initially move like fi with a transition to a non-Fickian concentration profile and front speed for modera...
متن کاملA Second Order Approximation for Quasilinear Non-Fickian Diffusion Models
In this paper initial boundary value problems, defined using quasilinear diffusion equations of Volterra type, are considered. These equations arise for instance to describe diffusion processes in viscoelastic media whose behaviour is represented by a Voigt-Kelvin model or a Maxwell model. We propose a finite difference discretization defined on a general nonuniform grid and we show second conv...
متن کاملLength Scales, Multi-fractals and Non-fickian Diffusion
In single phase flow of a passive tracer through heterogeneous porous media, a mixing layer develops between the tagged and untagged regions of the fluid. The mixing region expands as the time evolves. We have developed a multilength scale theory for the growth of the mixing region induced by a general random velocity field (multi-fractal field). The theory relates the statistics of the mixing ...
